Calligraphy Art

Pia Moberg first became interested in Japanese calligraphy when she began studying Japanese in the late 1980s at the University of Gothenburg. She was fascinated by the irreversible nature of the art form – the fact that it can never be erased – and by the contrast between the black ink and the white rice paper.

Since 1997, she has been a direct pupil of Professor and calligraphy master Taisho Akahira, who lives in Tokyo and works at Taisho University. Today, Pia holds the rank of nidan (second-degree black belt). In addition to traditional calligraphy, she has also designed numerous book covers where the ink techniques of calligraphy create harmonious illustrations for various themes. The minimalist calligraphic style is particularly well-suited to public spaces; when styling homes for sale; and for interior design enthusiasts seeking something new of high quality for their walls.

Pia has held five solo exhibitions between 2021 and 2026.

The exhibitions showcase a broad repertoire: from traditional calligraphic works to more innovative collaborations with various artists working with wood, metal, textiles, ink drawings and watercolour.
